Sade Sati and Dhaiya are called periods of testing. In this puja, Shani Dev is worshipped, mantras are chanted and a sankalp for daan is taken, as a prayer for patience and self-restraint. Usual samagri required • Idol or picture of Shani Dev • Mustard oil and an earthen lamp • Black sesame seeds and urad • Blue or black cloth • Blue flowers • Havan samagri and samidha • Roli, mauli and akshat The full samagri list will be finalised after consulting the pandit ji. Auspicious date / muhurat Saturdays and Shani Jayanti are considered auspicious; the correct muhurat is fixed with the pandit ji.

Process / Steps

Step 1

Sankalp is taken, followed by Ganpati and kalash puja.

Step 2

Shani Dev is installed and invoked.

Step 3

A lamp of mustard oil is lit.

Step 4

The mantras of Shani Dev are chanted.

Step 5

A sankalp for donating black sesame, urad, oil etc. is taken.

Step 6

The puja concludes with aarti and prasad. It may vary slightly by tradition.
